WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.  - Salem College Athletics enters its second week of competition with women's volleyball scheduled for five matches, while women's soccer continues its road stretch and women's cross country returns to the course for its second meet of the season.

Women's Volleyball
Salem volleyball enters the week with a 2-1 record after opening the season with three matches last week. Salem battled Roanoke in a five-set match before falling, 3-2, then responded with back-to-back victories, sweeping Averett, 3-0, and defeating Guilford, 3-1. Senior Ellie Scherer totaled 51 kills across the three matches, including 24 against Roanoke and 18 against Guilford. Junior Leah Rymer recorded 36 kills, 61 assists and 32 digs over the weekend.

To begin its five-match week, Salem will travel to Johnson & Wales University (N.C.) on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m.

Salem will then head to the Maroon Classic beginning Friday, Sept. 11, where they will face St. Mary's College of Maryland at 2 p.m. and Hollins University at 6 p.m. Salem will close out the tournament Saturday, Sept. 12, with matches against Roanoke College at 11 a.m. and Greensboro College at 5 p.m.

Women's Soccer
Salem soccer split its opening week of the 2026 season and enters the week with a 1-1 record. Salem opened the year with a 5-2 loss to Johnson & Wales before responding with a 2-1 road victory over Agnes Scott College. Hallie Kramer and freshman Dianelis Gonzales-Galan each scored in the win. Audrey Monteith registered three points scoring two goals against Johnson & Wales and the game winning assists in the win over Agnes Scott College. 

Salem soccer remains on the road and will travel to Columbia, S.C. to matchup against Columbia College on Thursday Sept 10th at 6:00 pm. 

Women's Cross Country 
Salem women's cross country opened its 2026 season with a runner-up finish at the Pfeiffer Invitational, placing three runners inside the top 15.

Freshman Beatrix Alvarez led Salem with a sixth-place finish, completing the 5K in 22:33.4. Triana Smallwood and Allyson Freeman both recorded personal-best performances, finishing 10th and 11th with times of 24:03.1 and 24:05.7, respectively.

Salem returns to competition at the Blue Bear Invitational, hosted by Livingstone College, on Friday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. in Salisbury, N.C.
