CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Salem College women's volleyball (3-1) swept Johnson & Wales (N.C.) (1-3) in straight sets, Tuesday evening at the JWU Wildcat Center. Salem finished the match with 38 kills while hitting .316 as a team. Junior
Leah Rymer recorded a double double leading the team with 17 assists and 10 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 (SALEM 25, JWU 13)
Salem came out strong offensively in the opening set, recording 12 kills on 21 attempts with just one error to hit .524. The Salem defense held Johnson & Wales to six kills and forced nine attacking errors as Salem took control of the match with a 25-13 opening-set victory.
SET 2 (SALEM 25, JWU 17)
Salem continued its offensive momentum in the second set, tallying 15 kills. The defense once again limited the Wildcats, who finished the frame with nine kills and six errors.
Salem closed out the second set with an assisted block from
Ellie Scherer and
Katelynn Miller to secure the 25-17 victory and take a 2-0 advantage in the match.
SET 3 (SALEM 25, JWU 11)
Salem completed the sweep with another strong defensive showing in the third set. Johnson & Wales was held to a -.040 hitting percentage with six kills, while Salem recorded 11 kills. Salem pulled away to claim the final set, 25-11, and secure its third win of the season.
