Renee Melly brings a lifelong passion for soccer and a deep commitment to player development to her role as volunteer Assistant Coach to the Salem College soccer program. 

Her background in the sport spans 40 years at multiple levels, including high school, Division III college soccer, adult leagues and competitive women's tournaments both in the United States and abroad.  She previously served as a volunteer coach for Salem College during its inaugural season in 2006 and has earned her Levels 1 and 2 Goalkeeping Certifications from the United Soccer Coaches Organization. 

Through her experience, Renee has developed a coaching philosophy centered on building strong fundamental skills, encouraging discipline and accountability, emphasizing teamwork and creating a positive culture where players feel motivated, supported, and challenged to reach their fullest potential. She is especially passionate about helping athletes grow and develop both on and off the field.  

Renee retired from the Winston-Salem Police Department in 2025 after 30 years of honorable service and believed it was time to give back to the sport that has given her so much over the years. She is excited to invest her experience, leadership and love of the game into the next generation of student-athletes here at Salem College.
